Important update regarding Congress 2020
Dear Federation members,
First, I wanted to thank each and every one of you for your collaboration and patience as we worked together to determine a contingency plan for Congress 2020.
After extensive consultations with members and key partners and a thorough evaluation of all possible scenarios, the Federation – in close collaboration with Western University – has decided there will not be an in-person Congress in 2020.

Last week, in a response to the crisis, Congress announced that in person sessions would be cancelled and replaced by virtual sessions. All participating academic organisations were given a week to opt in or out of this new arrangement. The CAANS board discussed these options and unanimously decided to opt out of this year’s Congress. Many other organisations are doing the same. While there are multiple reasons for our decision, the main one is that one simply cannot replace the face-to-face dynamics of a conference, which include both academic and social elements, not in the least connecting and reconnecting with colleagues while discussing ongoing research projects. CAANS 2020 will, therefore, not be held. We will reconvene in a year’s time at the University of Alberta in Edmonton at the end of May 2021.
We are delighted to confirm that all of your papers accepted for this year’s event will be rescheduled for CAANS 2021. All you need to do is to confirm to me by email at your convenience that you wish your paper to be included in next year’s programming. Papers presented at CAANS 2021 will be considered for inclusion in the 2021 conference proceedings.
If you are, however, unable to attend CAANS 2021, one option for you is to consider submitting your paper as a completed article to our journal, the Canadian Journal of Netherlandic Studies (https://caans-acaen.ca/journal/). Please send your completed texts to our editor-in-chief, Krystyna Henke, at khenke.cjns@gmail.com.
